Fallen trees from the recent storms have been transformed into mulch that will be made available free to the community.
Staff from the City’s Park Maintenance Division are hosting two free mulch giveaway events on March 18 and 25 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The events will held at the South Village Green at William Land Regional Park (on East Park Road near Sutterville and Freeport Boulevard).
“Our staff have been hard at work to clean up the fallen trees from January’s storms, which have left us with plenty of mulch to share with the community,” said Shawn Aylesworth, the City’s park maintenance manager.
Staff estimate there are several tons of mulch available that can be used to help prevent evaporation, improve soil health and control weeds. Some of the mulch already has been used at various parks across the city as ground cover.
The events are limited to City of Sacramento residents.
In addition to mulch, large tree trunk sections will be available for wood workers and education purposes.
Aylesworth encourages people to bring their own hand tools, containers and tarp to cover mulch in their vehicles. Staff will be available to assist with
